Creative

I find it troubling that there are groups in our industry labeled as "creative." There's the Creative Director, the associate Creative Directors, Creative leaders, VP's of Creative Services, the list goes on.

Why is it that this designation is given to one group. Doesn't it in fact suggest to all others that they aren't creative or worse still, that creativity is not part of their job or not expected of them. The idea that some people are creative and some aren't is idiotic. All kinds of people pocess the ability to be creative, but not necessarily in the same way. Some of the most creative people have account responsibilities or traffic or research or strategy or media. Creativity should exist, no be demanded of each of us. Creativity is simply an imaginative solution - the problem not even need be an advertising or communications problem.

In our organization the people usually dubbed as "creatives" are all members of the product group. These are the people who produce the products we use to help our clients. Everyone in the organization is charged with being creative - it's simply a part of all of our jobs.

It seems like there is a flaw in the qualification of being creative. Which confuses me because logically being creative to qualify someone as creative he/she must create. Who doesn't create?

For argument sake, someone who places a piece of white bread into a toaster is creating toast–does this not qualify as a culinary art? It's original in the sense that this particular piece of toast will never be recreated, right? If I take a photo and give it a title is it then art?

It's a stretch, try to make it.
